High-level dialogue on the margins of the UN General Assembly to discuss governance models for managing critical natural resources in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This session will explore proposals for the responsible, transparent, and inclusive governance of critical natural resources—such as water, biodiversity, and strategic minerals like lithium, copper, and cobalt—which are essential for sustainable transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event builds on participatory regional dialogues and seeks to generate actionable recommendations for development and democracy in the region.

The 20th session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF20) presents a pivotal opportunity to tackle the critical issues surrounding land degradation, particularly in dryland areas , which cover about 41% of the Earth's land surface and are home to approximately 2.5 billion people, about 25 percent of the global population. Over 50 percent of these populations rely on agriculture for their livelihoods, primarily producing staples like millet, sorghum, and various pulses.
